Success Story

Lumin Stiler

The Problem

Lumin, a leader in responsible forest management and industrial product transformation, is progressing with the construction of its second industrial plant in Uruguay. For the Vats area, Stiler was awarded the contract with a pre-engineering design based on the existing plant. BRAVNN was selected to perform the detailed engineering and stress analysis of the piping under operational conditions. During this process, we identified several opportunities for improvement in the original designs, which allowed us to better understand the recurring challenges in the current plant.

The Challenge

The main challenge was to redesign the piping to meet the requirements of ASME B31.3, considering critical variables such as temperature, pressure, thermal expansion, support structures, stresses, and forces. All of this had to be achieved while maintaining the use of the original materials, minimizing additional costs, and optimizing the system.

The Solution

After an exhaustive analysis and hundreds of iterations, we made key adjustments to the original designs to ensure:

  • Maximum stresses within the acceptable limits set by ASME B31.3.
  • Forces transmitted to the equipment within the parameters defined by the manufacturers.

We optimized the system by modifying the layouts, incorporating a minimal number of additional elements, and designing elastic supports with conventional materials. The result: an efficient, reliable, optimized system with minimal additional costs, ensuring flawless operation in the new Lumin plant.
